Spinal Decompression
If you’re living with chronic back pain, you may have lost hope that you will ever be pain-free again. At Infinity Chiropractic Wellness Center, LLC, we’re here to help you keep hope alive with some of the most effective back pain treatment methods available – such as spinal decompression.
What Is Spinal Decompression?
Spinal decompression is an effective back pain treatment that gently stretches your spine. It helps relieve pain, pinched nerves, compressed muscles, and herniated discs. For a better understanding of the process, imagine the bending part of a flexible straw before you pull it apart.
Daily life, work, and poor posture can often leave the spinal column similar to that compressed shape. When it does, it puts unnecessary pressure on the soft tissues surrounding the spine. This can lead to pain, inflammation, numbness, tingling, and more.
Spinal decompression is similar to pulling the straw out to its full length. As this happens, the pressure on the pinched nerves and other surrounding spinal components is released. A type of vacuum effect is created, which pulls oxygen and nutrients to the spine.
What to Expect
When you enter our chiropractor’s office, a harness will be placed around your hips. You will lie on a specially designed, segmented table. The harness will be attached to the lower segment. As you lie there, the top segment of the table will stay still while the lower segment gently moves according to your needs. It’s not a painful process. In fact, most patients find it very relaxing and it typically only takes about 20 minutes.
How Many Treatments Are Needed?
The number of treatments you need will depend on your specific needs, but it can normally take approximately two to three treatments per week for eight weeks. Though spinal decompression produces great results on its own, optimal results come from combining it with other chiropractic treatments. These treatments may include:
- Spinal adjustments
- Massage therapy
- Therapeutic exercises
- Muscle stimulation
- Ultrasound therapy
